Hong Kong · A City’s Color
Hong Kong’s colors are Victoria Harbour blue—the azure of Victoria Harbour, the kaleidoscopic neon lights, the emerald green of the ding ding tram. Cha chaan teng is the soul of Hong Kong; silky milk tea and pineapple bun—the perfect East-meets-West breakfast.
Signature Snacks
Egg Waffles (Gai Dan Zai)
Honeycomb-shaped egg waffles, crispy outside and soft inside. The aroma is strongest right out of the iron. Best torn apart and eaten while hot. Lee Keung Kee North Point and Mammy Pancake are the most famous.
Silky Milk Tea (Si Wa Nai Cha)
Ceylon black tea repeatedly pulled and poured through a “silk stocking” (cotton cloth bag), mixed with Black & White evaporated milk. Strong tea flavor, smooth milk taste—a good cup of silky milk tea should “hang on the cup”—the tea clings to the cup wall and slowly drips down. Lan Fong Yuen is the birthplace of silky milk tea.
